Some progress in the light production/transport simulation in ICARUS using FLUKA G. Battistoni, A. Ferrari, C. Pardi in collaboration with LNGS/Aq group
Reproduce some muon data from actual data (both with “vertical” and “horizontal” trigger) with and without Rayleigh scattering Usual conditions: no reflection from cathode 128 cathode holes at 60% 24000 photons/MeV @ 128 nm no detailed PMT eff.
From last J. Lagoda presentation: Comparison with data photons ADC counts minimal distance (cm) pmt#1 pmt#2 pmt#3 pmt#4 run 649 “Vertical” muons
This work: Reproducing muons from Run 649 (reconstruction got from J. Lagoda + LNGS people) Rayleigh with l = 90 cm No Rayleigh “Vertical” Muons
Comparison with data photons ADC counts minimal distance (cm) pmt#1 pmt#2 pmt#3 pmt#4 run 781 “Horizontal” muons
This work: Reproducing muons from Run 781 Rayleigh with l = 90 cm No Rayleigh “Horizontal” Muons
Remarks • Introducing Rayleigh scattering increases the slope in • the plot of Npho vs distance from PMT • Slope of ADC counts vs distance from PMT in real data • is closer to the case of no Rayleigh Scattering • (~as in first LNGS simulation) • But R.Sc. must be there ! (plus maybe some absorption) • So what is missing? • Are there any saturation in PMT pulses in real data? • NOT IN THESE RUNS (Selected events)
Some news about FLUKA Since Feb 19th there exists a scientific agreement between INFN, CERN (EP and AB divisions) and FLUKA authors to develop maintain and distribute FLUKA to HEP community Main milestone: a full release within 18 months with a proper licence (already a milestone of INFN Gr.V)
A Beginner's course • My idea and intention is still valid (delayed due to FLUKA issues and work on T600 paper) • LNGS agrees to host a FLUKA course provided it is general and not only for ICARUS. • This is not a problem • Project: 3 days, including examples dedicated to underground physics plus a dedicated appendix to specific Icarus library and cases • When: we cannot think of it before CHEP-2003 (end of March) most likely April or May
