  3. Vision • OBJECTIVE • Getting all Essex secondary schools to Good or better by eliminating disadvantage • STRATEGY • School-to-School Self-Led Improvement • TACTICS • ASHE/LA TRIAD Professional Review Model

TRIAD ProgrammeAims TRIAD PROGRAMME • To establish a whole school approach for improved outcomes • To establish a "culture of reflective challenge" as distinct from a "culture of sharing" • To encourage honest, challenging and professional dialogue to improve outcomes • TRIAD report confidential to the schools involved • Host headteacher determines the audience for the report

The TRIAD Programme This project is designed to : • encourage school leaders to work together to review and further improve their schools • provide school leaders with an insight into how Ofsted inspects • HMI , NLEs and SECs will support the evaluation in each school – challenge, critique and support the write up • Principles of: openness reflection constructive criticism accurate feedback

Essex Ofsted Judgements Since the start of the academic year 2015/16 • 1 Good school inspected and moved from Good to Outstanding • 1 Outstanding school inspected and moved from Outstanding to Good • 7 Requires Improvement schools inspected and moved from Requires Improvement to Good • 4 Good schools inspected and remained Good • 1 Inadequate school inspected and moved from Inadequate to Requires Improvement • 1 school inspected for the first time and judged Good • 1 school inspected for the first time and judged Inadequate • THANKS TO EXCELLENT SCHOOL LEADERSHIP ALL ESSEX SCHOOLS INVOLVED IN THE TRIAD PROGRAMME AND INSPECTED DURING THE PROCESS WERE JUDGED GOOD

  11. PersonalExperience Mark Farmer (Moulsham High School) Involved in the original Ofsted Triad pilot in the 2014/15 academic year Continued involvement in the ASHE/LA/Ofsted Triad Programme in the 2015/16 academic year

Feedback WHAT WENT WELL (Summary) • Supportive and challenging opportunity with experienced colleagues • Invaluable experience to have external heads help identify the focus for the review • Excellent CPD from department reviews (Science) • Action points from the review now being implemented • Created good external links for heads, senior leaders and department staff • Moderating current practice and sharing interesting practice • Constructive feedback • Reviewed a problematic area in a balanced and supportive way

Feedback EVEN BETTER IF (Summary) • Facilitator helpful for the first TRIAD review • Group schools by similar focus • Directory of facilitator expertise • Pre-meeting to discuss the focus is vital • Private open discussion between the heads without facilitator or SEC • Involve wider leadership team not just the head • Consider a common format for the review report • List of review foci (not the report) covered by the TRIADs • Minimum of two hours for the two reviewers to discuss their thoughts

Please state if you wish to remain in the same TRIAD group. • Please state if you need a facilitator. • Financial support for the next TRIAD not finally confirmed but under discussion with the LA.
