  1. THE POSSESSIVE FORM WITH NOUNS In Englishwe use anapostrophe (‘) and “S” afterthenames of personsor substantives thatrepresentpersonstoindicatethatanobjectis in thepossession of a person.

  2. Singular NounsTo show the possessive of a noun in singular add apostrophe and “S” (‘s = His / Her) • Examples … * Joe’s sports car. • One person, singular. • * The doctor’s office. • One person, singular.

  3. Exception: To show the possessive of a two or more syllable proper noun which ends in “S” add apostrophe only.(‘ = His / Her) • Example… Carlos’ hat. • Example… Mrs. Perkins’ garden

  4. Plural NounsA. Regular Plural Nouns.To show possessive of plural nouns which end in “S” add apostrophe ONLY. • Example. The boys’ little house. • Example. The students’ books.

  5. B. Irregular Plural Nouns.To show the possessive of irregular plural nouns add apostrophe and “S” Examples… The policemen’s guns. • (‘s = Their) Examples… The women’s purses.

  6. Thepossessiveformwith“OF”The word “OF” indicates possession. We use it in English to express that an object s part of another object. • Example… Guatemala city is the capital of Guatemala. • I opened the door of the kitchen.
