A Power of 10 always has a BASE of 10 and then any integer exponent. How are the exponent and the number of zeros in the Standard Form related?
EXAMPLES Write the following numbers using powers of 10: 234 = 200 + 30 + 4 (2 x 100) + (3 x 10) + (4 x 1) (2 x 102) + (3 x 101) + (4 x 100) 3452 = 3000 + 400 + 50 + 2 (3 x 1000) + (4 x 100) + (5 x 10) + (2 x 1) (3 x 103) + (4 x 102) + (5 x 101) + (2 X 100)
A power with an integer base, other than 0, and an exponent 0 is always equal to 1. n0=1 n≠0 20 = 1 130 = 1 (-5)0 = 1
EXAMPLES Evaluate each expression: 40 = 1 (-4)0 = 1 10010 = 1 -40 = -1 -(-5)0 = -1 When does the exponent apply to the negative sign? It applies to what is inside the bracket (if no bracket it only applies to the number)
