What we gotta know • “learn about the technological developments that have taken place” • “changes in working styles” • “employment opportunities”
Location, location, location • Work can now take place either on an employment premise or at home – not too much special equipment needed that isn’t at home. • Working hours change – systems that don’t need to be monitored can work near enough 24/7 • It allows for personal flexibility of working hours (in smaller businesses) and work can also be done on the go – mobiles, tablets etc
Re-training • Because of the change of technology in the work place, staff will have to be retrained so they are able to use the new equipment. • Staff will have to stay updated with ICT as they keep changing and improving. This means the impacts of retraining will be consistent, and not one off. • Retraining will effect the business in several ways; • It will take staff out of work to go on training courses • PLS will have to fund these courses in order to keep staff • Not as many jobs required, so staff will have to be selected
Social aspects • Risk of job loss is a major factor concerning staff when PLS switches to using ICT systems more prominently. • Job security will also be a worry among staff, as this depends on contractual agreements being altered between employers and employees. • Reduced social interaction in the workplace may lead to staff having lower morale, more mundane jobs will lead to unhappy staff members. • Changes in motivation may also effect staff members, as they will no longer be directly supervised.
Responsibilities • Who is to blame when ICT systems go wrong? Supervisersof equipment will be entitled to make sure machines are consistently running smoothly and don’t break down. • This could lead to high levels of stress, leading to a lesser work ethic and also affecting staff members personal lives. • Breaks and leisure time will have to be distributed evenly, to make sure that equipment is supervised at all time. This requires PLS paying a higher wage for the
