Solvent vs. Solute Solvent – the substance doing the dissolving. Solute– the substance that is dissolved in a solution. Example: Sugar-water solution solvent = water solute = sugar
Miscible vs. Immiscible Miscible – two liquids that dissolve in each other (water and ethanol) Miscible = mix Immiscible – liquids that are not soluble in one another (example: gasoline and water). Immiscible = NO mix
Pure water? Aqueous solutions – water samples containing dissolved substances. (pure water never exists in nature because water dissolves too many substances).
