Laura Solomon laura@designforthelittleguy.com An Webinar Digital Photo Management for Libraries May 19, 2010 @ 12:00 pm Infopeople webinars are supported by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, administered in California by the State Librarian.
Today’s agenda • Flickr • Picasa • Facebook, Photobucket and Photoshop.com • Online photo editors • Some things to think about
Other Flickr features • Built-in feeds • Support for OpenStreetMap and Foursquare • People tagging • Official app for iPhone
Downsides of Flickr • Ad-based model • Somewhat more complex UI • No high-quality images
Features • “Download to Picasa” • Unlimited albums • Geotagging • People tagging • Direct import from cameras • Webcam videos • Email high rez photos
Weaknesses of Picasa • Fewer features • All real work has to be done in the client • Inventories everything • No sub-albums (but neither does Flickr)
Picasa for patrons http://www.flickr.com/photos/njla/3310096916/
DPI • What is it? • What is the goal? • How do you get a higher resolution?
