Contents analysis NME and Drummer
Name's contents uses one major picture along side its information's, which is split into a Band index, telling the reader all the bands mentioned and what page as well as a standard contents with the main articles and a short piece about the picture. This layout appeals to its rock/heavy audience as it is an interesting layout with lots to attract the eyes. Its simple bold fonts give clear indication for eyes scanning across with a good colour scheme.
The use of a black back ground contrast with the red and white allowing them both to stand out. It does make the white stand out further as this is what has happened “this week” and what the whole contents is about The date is clearly marked in a small white font . Its small as the magazine will be display weekly and therefore the date will be more apparent to the reader.
Band Index, sticks out in bold and black from the white back ground, giving a clear title. The Name of each Band mentioned are labelled down the side so if the reader is looking for a particular article or band then they can easily find them. Alphabetical order to increase the ease of finding a band, good with a large audince age range . Also helpful as the size of the writing is small.
Small stickers showing the reader which story is being shown on the cover as that will be the first thing they have seen and might be looking for it The main part of the contents are split into 5 sections: NEW Latest information on top bands RADARAnything new that are points of interest to their readers REVIEWSArticles on new tracks and albums LIVEGigs and festival information FEATURESMain articles covered by NME There is a good contrast between the black writing ad red numbers compared to the opposite for the other side of the page, creating variety Plus section: Including some of the standard things readers expect to find in NME
Big picture immediately grabs attention of the audience. The picture is clearly from a live gig. It is split to show the two different bands playing together . ( Oasis playing with crouch end choir) A large heading and a lot of writing for a contents page. This is an interesting concept which allows the reader a small incite into the article.
Targeted at drummers mainly hence the name it has a large photo of a drummer along with Large Bold writing for the Magazine title fitting the audience. The red and white contrast which each other, especially with the darker photos. These colours are used to attract the desired, dreary , dark drummer as well as being nice to look at attracting other audiences.
There is a grey back ground with a slightly indented white part which all the writing is on. This gives the 01/07 an extra layer The date and page title is smaller than the magazine name at the top in different colours with less impact. Large dark bold letters appealing to drummers. At the top of the page conventionally.
The red allows the key in formation to stand out and the bold titles also stand out from the black writing The plus symbol is an eye catcher and stands out from the writing behind it, very effective “ Raining blood , appealing to the heavier audience often associated with drummers. This is furthered by the dark and evil associated colour scheme . Red and Black This is the regular items that feature in the magazine. I really like have they have split the two sections, and how they contrast each other in colour, using the same colours for different parts of the piece.
This is the main picture used is of Dave Lombardo, the drummer of slayer at a gig. The black and white photo also has an affect, to make it seem pixelated as if it was on a T shirt. The drummer is smiling showing his enjoyment and happiness The second picture is of a drummer in a spot light, showing his fame and how he is in the spot light, and being wrote about in magazines The picture of a young attractive women is used staring into the camera to almost connecting with the individual These other side photos are little hints at what is inside the magazine as well as attracting more readers.
