  1. Bell Work 1/12/15 Write the equation of the line.

  2. Yesterday’s Homework • Any questions? • Please pass your homework to the front. • Make sure the correct heading is on your paper. • Is your NAME on your paper? • Make sure the homework is 100% complete. • Incomplete work will NOT be accepted.

  3. Heading 1/1/2020 Slopes of Parallel and Perpendicular Lines (para.) TSWBAT: write an equation in slope-intercept form given a point and a parallel line. Students understand the concepts of parallel lines and perpendicular lines and how those slopes are related. Students are able to find the equation of a line perpendicular to a given line that passes through a given point.

  4. Notes Graph the lines. Ex. b = beginning m = move Are they parallel? Yes All you have to do is see if the slopes are the same.

  5. Notes • Parallel Lines = Two lines that never intersect. • Their slopes are the SAME. Graph a set of parallel lines.

  6. Notes Determine if the two lines are PARALLEL. Ex. Ex. Find the slope first. Are they the same? No No Now you try. Ex. Ex. Yes Yes

  7. Notes Write in slope-intercept form the equation of the line passing through the given point and PARALLEL to the given line. Now you try. Ex. Ex. Label your points. What is our slope?

  8. Notes Write in slope-intercept form the equation of the line passing through the given point and PARALLEL to the given line. Ex. Ex. Now you try. Label your points. What is our slope?

  9. Summary • To find the equation of a line parallel to another line and that goes through a specific point you first just take the ______ from the given line since parallel lines have the _____ slope. With that slope and the given point plug it into the _____-slope formula and solve for __. • slope • same • y • point

  10. Today’s Homework • Rules for Homework • Pencil ONLY. • Must show all of your work. • NO WORK = NO CREDIT • Must attempt EVERY problem. • Always check your answers.

  11. Homework 5.7A Determine if the two lines are PARALLEL. Write in slope-intercept form the equation of the line passing through the given point and PARALLEL to the given line.

  12. Ticket Out the Door • Complete the Ticket Out the Door without talking!!!!! • Talking = time after the bell! • Put your NAME on the paper. • When finished, turn your paper face DOWN. • Write in slope-intercept form the equation of the line passing through the given point and PARALLEL to the given line.
