Library Program • Tools and Techniques: • Plans and implement a comprehensive library program integrated with the educational program of the school in accordance with standards and curriculum frameworks. • Evaluates the school’s library program in relation to the needs of the curriculum and the students.
Library Management • Tools and techniques • Establishes regulations and policies governing use of the library and schedules its use. • Maintains and supervises the use of technology in the library. • Administers the library budget. • Prepares financial and progress reports and keeps records as needed.
Collection Management • Tools and Techniques: • Establishes procedures and routines to select, order, process, catalog, organize and circulate library materials. • Maintains accurate records of library holdings. • Conducts a periodic stock verification of library holdings. • Weeds obsolete and worn materials from the collection on a regular basis.
Library Staff Management • Tools and Techniques: • Train and supervises the library supporting staff, student aides, and volunteers. • Organizes, schedules, and delegates the duties of the staff. • Discusses policies and procedures with library staff.
Library Facilities • Tools and Techniques: • Maintains an attractive and orderly facility conducive to learning. • Selects and arranges library furniture and equipment. • Plans new or expanded facilities as needed.
Collaborative Activities • Tools and techniques: • Attends departmental, faculty, and grade group meetings, and meets with Small Learning Communities. • Collaborates with school and community organizations. • Participates in library and other educational and professional associations. • Collaborates with public, university, and special libraries.
Library Promotion • Tools and techniques: • Creates library bulletin boards and displays. • Plans and conducts special programs for Children’s Book Week and National Library Week. • Promotes library materials and programs through school publications, book reviews and book talks, displays, and library Web pages. • Becomes an active member of the School committees. • Participates in and encourages reader activities such as competition and Book Fairs.

Curriculum and Educational Program • Tools and techniques • Becomes familiar with the curriculum and educational program: the courses of study, manuals, units, special and pilot programs. • Establishes and maintains an up-to-date, relevant collection. • Participates in curriculum study and revision as an active member of curriculum committees; serves as a curriculum and resource consultant. • Keeps up with current educational trends, methods and materials, and innovations in technology. • Provides library services and selects appropriate materials and equipment to aid in teaching learning process. Curriculum and Educational Program • Guides staff and students in the appropriate use of Internet and other technology. • Motivates students to read through devices such as book talks, special displays, creative dramatics, and storytelling. • Creates and maintains an atmosphere conducive to learning and effective library use. • Provides a program of instruction for all students with classes, small groups, and individual students. • Performs reference service. • Provides reading and technology guidance. • Organizes materials, equipment, schedules, and space to support learning.
Faculty Relations • Tools and Techniques • Actively collaborates with teachers to create standards-driven units of study, to integrate information literacy skills with the classroom teaching program, and to help students utilize all library services and materials. • Work closely with the reading team to support the reading program of the school. • Keep teachers informed of services and materials in the library. • Promote the formation of a Library Advisory Committee. • Maintain a collection of professional materials for faculty use. • Provide special services such as bibliographies and reserve collections.
