A glimpse of him • Born in Calcutta on 5th March • A Post graduate in Commerce • Completed his Bachelors degree from Delhi University • Masters Degree from CCS University in Commerce Honors.
His first foot step in Industry • In 1974 - Joined family business of Manufacturing Packaging Materials “Chandra Industrial Co. Pvt. Ltd.” in the capacity of CEO and helped the company in moving from strength to strength. • In 1999 - started M/s CJ Online Pvt. Ltd., the first Operational Private ISP on 100% digital platform in Ghaziabad (NCR Town of Delhi) and its adjoining areas. • Now, CJ Online is the largest ISP in and around Ghaziabad catering to Large Educational Institute like Engineering, Management, Dental and Schools along with corporate, software development company, Call Center’s and BPO’s.
Reaching milestones • In 2002 - Mr. Rajesh Chharia served as the Vice President of the Internet Service Provider Association of India. A body that worked with the government and other stakeholders to formulate policies for the growth of the Internet in India. • In September 2006 - He was elected the President for the same organization. • He was the first President of ISP Association of India who ensured presence of India in APNIC by nominating and supporting election of a ISPAI representative to the EC of APNIC. • He has also played a major role in creating National Internet Exchange of India, presently he is one of the Director of NIXI a not-for-profit organization floated by Internet community of India representing all stake holders managing the exchange points and domain name registry in India. • NIXI also supports Internet infrastructure in India like 3 root servers within India, and have IPv6 Test Beds in leading metros of India. The peering at 7 exchange points of NIXI has saved valuable foreign exchange for our country and created a level playing field between small, medium and large ISP’s in the critical early stages of Internet growth in India. • As a Director of NIXI, they hosted ICANN in 2008 New Delhi and recently IGF 2008 in Hyderabad along with ISPAI. • As a nominee for the Board of Directors of ICANN, he thinks the management of IPv6 needs policies and an approach on how large they wish the Internet to be. • From the platform of ISPAI and NIXI he raised a lot of development issues for the Internet Industry and got the same solved resulting growth of Industry.
Reaching milestones • He is planning to take the Internet to the next billions and what Internet can be in the next decade, visualizing regulatory advocacies & socio economic factors that may be prevailing at that time. • He have also managed National, Regional (SE Asia, Asia Pacific) and International events. • The very first IPv6 tutorial in New Delhi, India in 2007 and SANOG 10 training programs in the year 2007 was conducted under his stewardship. • In the same year, the 1st time Internet event of Asia-Pacific magnitude, APNIC 24 was also hosted in New Delhi under his Presidentship of ISPAI. • Rather beside Internet he is also a Member for Taxes as Regional Advisory Committee (RAC), Central Excise & Service Tax under Ministry of Finance, Govt. of India. • He has also contributed by being a member of committees of leading Industry Associations of India like FICCI, CII & ASSOCHAM. • Further he is looking keenly for development of Broadband and telephony in rural parts of India which is 70% of the total population of India.
