  2. Job Duties & Responsibilities • Feed the fish and clean area surrounding the ponds and tanks. • Supervise the counting and weighing before the fish are sold. • Maintain hatchery space and equipment. • Keep accurate records of growth and production.

  3. Qualities and Skills • Physical stamina and ability to perform hard work • Ability to work outdoors • Ability to stand, bend, and walk • Ability to swim may be needed • Good research and observation skills • Must be patient • Well developed public relations skills

  4. Salary Salary range for a fish hatchery manager who has completed more than two years of college is $40,000 to $50,000 a year. Included benefits are paid holidays and vacations, and health insurance.

  5. Work Environment • Most work will be spent outdoors in all weather conditions • Some work will be done indoors in places such as laboratories • May be required to work some nights • Work normal 40-hour work week

  6. Becoming an Fish Hatchery Manager • Take classes in biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics. • A part time job or an internship on a local farm is helpful in learning the organization and structure of a fishery.
