Huckleberry Finn – 1st person narrator • Is the protagonist and always getting into trouble (he dressed as a girls and went and stole eggs and other goods.) • 13 years old • Rescues Jim with Tom’s help • He is an orphan • He lives in St. Petersburg, Missouri • He ran away from his family • After Huck left Miss Watson and Widow Douglas, he got more of an idea on life. When he lived with her he thought it was all fun and games.

  4. Tom Sawyer • Huck’s friend • 13 years old • Helps Huck free Jim • He is in his own world

  5. Widow Douglas • Adopts Huck • Has a lot of patience with Huck • Is the sister to Miss Watson

  6. Miss Watson • Is the sister to Widow Douglas • Tries to teach Huck religion and how to spell • Is the owner of Jim • She tries to civilize Huck

  7. Jim • He is African American • He is a runaway slave • He is Miss Watson’s household slave • Helped get free by Huck and Tom • Is Huck’s true friend • Is very religious

  8. Pap • Huck’s father • Always drunk • Beats Huck over his education • Huck escapes from the cruelty

  9. Judge Thatcher The local Judge He is in charge of Huck’s money, so Pap doesn’t get a hold of it. Tries to keep Huck away from Pap

  10. Buck • Part of the Grangerford family • Becomes really good friends with Huck • Buck dies, and it really devastates Huck. • Huck and Buck had sort of a “long lost twin” relationship. • Youngest son of Grangerfords

  11. The Duke • Rescued Huck and Jim • About30years old • Helps with Huck’s moral growth • Toward the end of the book he is tarred and feathered in Pikesville.

  12. The King • Helps with Huck’s moral growth • The King influenced the Duke to do some bad things. • He was the older of the con men.
