  1. Cold Therapy All you should know about cold therapy

  2. Cold Therapy is also known as Cryotherapy. Cold therapy can be applied in various ways such as ice packs, coolant sprays, ice massage, and whirlpools, or ice baths. Cold therapy refers to cold therapy with ice or gel packs that are usually kept in the freezer until needed.

  3. Why Cold Therapy is required? • Cold therapy can reduce swelling, which is tied to pain. It can be helpful in reducing sensitivity to pain. Cold therapy for pain relief may include: • Lower back pain • Arthritis pain • Runner's knee • Pain and swelling after a hip or knee replacement

  4. If you are at home you can use an ice pack or gel pack. An ice pack or gel pack is a portable plastic bag filled with water, refrigerant gel, or liquid. It can be very much helpful in reducing pain and inflammation. It is not chilled enough to keep it in the freezer for a few minutes and its ready to use. There is a wide range of ice packs which include Reusable ice packs, Gel ice packs, Ice wraps, etc.

  5. The ice packs are easily available in the grocery stores. Apart from this, you can make ice packs at home too. Here how you can make your own Ice pack at home:- • (i) Take a plastic freezer bag and fill it with one cup of rubbing alcohol and 2 cups of water. • (ii) Seal your freezer bag and remove the air out of it before sealing so that it won’t leak while freezing.

  6. (iii) Let your gel pack freeze for 2–3 hours. The differences in the freezing points of the rubbing alcohol and water will prevent the solution from freezing and instead give a gel texture. • (iv) You can use dishwasher detergent, hair gel, corn syrup, or salt in the same proportions. if rubbing alcohol is not available.

  7. The ice packs are very much easy to handle as it is packed with such conveniently. Although, there are such things that need to pay attention while using the ice pack. It is said that the ideal time for applying the ice pack is between 15-20 minutes. As it can burn your skin if applied for a long period of time causing some dangerous injury.
