The Purpose of the TAV To help HSTW/MMGW/TCTW schools plan for improving student learning TAV Team members become a TCTWinvestigation team • To identify promising school and classroom practices and • To find evidence for strategic recommendations to more deeplyimplement the TCTWfive Priorities!
What a TAV is NOT • The purpose is not to evaluate or accredit • The purpose is not to suggest facility repairs • The purpose is not to be critical
How do Schools Receive a TAV? Through: • TCTW State Network Services: Up to two from SREB annually • States: Varies - Memorandum of Understanding • TCTW Contracted Sites
TAV- Site Visit Schedule • Day 1: TAV team arrives (afternoon)– • School presentation; • Team orientation to TCTW Priorities, to the building and to receive assignments for observations and interviews • Day 2: Classroom observations; Interviews; Team Debrief and Consensus • Day 3: Exit Conference; School Feedback

Details of the AgendaSecond Day • TA Team assembles at assigned site location 30 minutes prior to beginning of school. • Observations/Interviews in the morning • Interviews/Observations in the afternoon • Team will meet after close of school at assigned location for debriefing. • Debriefing – three-five hours

Who typically serves on the TAV team? • Career Technical Teachers • Core Academic Teachers • Administrators: School – Same level • Representative (often counselor or administrator-sometimes teacher): Sending School(s) • District Representative • State Representative • Postsecondary Representative • Parent, Community, and/or Business Representative
Team Member Assignments • Interviews • Observations • Data Collection • Data Analysis
Classroom Observations –Procedures and Protocol Team Members: • Visit each classroom 10-15 minutes • Complete classroom notes form, taking detailednotes • Gather supporting evidence such as assignments, tests, scoring guides, syllabi, etc.
Interview Groups • Students • Teachers • Counselors • Administrators • Parents • Superintendent or designee • Postsecondary representatives • Business/industry representatives
