Ergonomics • What is ergonomics? – The science of designing equipment intended to increase productivity and comfort. • Why is it important? – To avoid injury due to inadequate furniture and to promote a more productive work environment.
Benefits of Using Ergonomics • Products constructed with ergonomics are reported to be: • More Comfortable • Saves Time • Reduces Fatigue • Increases Accuracy • Lessens chance of Injury
Negative Effects of Not Using Ergonomics • Health problems • – Arthritis due to position of keyboards, required pressure to use keyboards and format of the keyboard • - Carpal tunnel occurs in the wrists due to angle of the keyboard • - Back problems due to incorrect position of typing, or lack of support from chair.
Complaints of Current Ergonome Products • Monitor won't fit • Twisted posture • Bad Postures • Work practices • Environmental Factors • Wrong heights for table and chair • Monitor wrong height or distance • Glare
Why should we get an ergonomic chair? • Ergonomic chairs have more support than regular chairs. • Ergonomic chairs combined proper posture. • They don’t cause health problems like regular chairs do. • If you were in a comfortable chair you would be mostly likely to pay attention in class.
