Naming Conventions in TG3d for THz, Pairnet, and HRCP Networks

Discussion on naming conventions in TG3d regarding THz, Pairnet, and HRCP nature, proposed for baseline document consideration in TG3d. Differentiation and commonalities between TG3d and TG3e regarding operating bands and applications. Clear distinctions necessary for THz PHY, HRCP PHY, pairnet, and HRCP terms.

Project: IEEE P802.15 Working Group for Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPANs) Submission Title:Some thoughts on naming conventions in TG3d Date Submitted: 15 September 2016 Source:Thomas Kürner (TU Braunschweig) Address Schleinitzstr. 22, D-38092 Braunschweig, Germany Voice:+495313912416, FAX: +495313915192, E-Mail: kuerner@ifn.ing.tu-bs.de Re: 15-16-0595-00-003d-proposal-for-ieee802-15-3d-thz-phy Abstract:This document discusses naming conventions wrt to the THz, parinet and HRCP nature of TG3d Purpose: To be considered in TG3d baseline document Notice: This document has been prepared to assist the IEEE P802.15. 2. Within TG3d a new PHY operatingat 252 to 325 GHz isdevelopedforswitchedpoint-to-point links • The amendmentdeveloped inTG3d distinguishesfromthebaselinestandardbyintroducing • a PHY fornewfrequencyrange -> THz PHY • theconcept of point-to-point links, whereonlytwodevicesareinvolved. Thisisthe same conceptasintroducedbythe parallel runningproject TG3e and iscalledthere a pairnet Scope of TG3d Thomas Kürner (TU Braunschweig)

  3. Within TG3e a new PHY, but still operatingat 60 GHz isdevelopedfor High-Rate Close proximity (HRCP) applications. HRCP also involvesonlytwodevices. Thereforetheconcept of pairnetisintroduced. HRCP devicesarealwaysoperating in a pairnet. Scope of TG3e Thomas Kürner (TU Braunschweig)

  4. Commonalities: In bothcasesthedevicesarealwaysoperatedaspairnet Differences: TG3d operatoresatthe 300 GHz band (THz) and TG3e operatesatthe 60 GHz band. Partlycommonalities/partlydifferences: Someapplications in TG3d are HRCP applications, soemare not (seenextslide) Commonalities and Differencesbetween TG3d and TG3e Thomas Kürner (TU Braunschweig)
