  1. Digital Cameras and Histograms

  2. Digital Cameras have a brightness histogram that will tell you how “underexposed” or “overexposed” a picture might be based on how many pixels fall within each darkness/brightness column.

  3. Here is an example of a histogram that is underexposed. The histogram has a bunched group to the very left.

  4. Here is an example of a histogram that is overexposed. The histogram has bunched group to the very right.

  5. Using technology you can blend two pictures together and get a more balanced histogram.

  6. A histogram tells you what qualities the pictures have it is neither “good” or “bad”. For example even though the picture has a lot of dark tones it is not to the extreme right. You have to draw your own conclusions about what is appropriate for you.

  7. Here is one last one on the other side of the histogram. Overall there are many ways to alter the histogram using longer exposure time, flash, etc. (stuff I don’t really know much about =P)
