WEAVE Overview • In 2010 EEC began working with the Open Indicators Consortium and Professor Georges Grinstein from UMass Lowell • Goals of this project include: • To enable data visualization of available data • Support greater organizational transparency and accountability • Increase access, distribution and use of public data • To increase data understanding and knowledge • To enable planning and accountability • To facilitate data dissemination and distribution

WEAVE Stories • Three key topics were addressed as part of the WEAVE project: • Programs by location • Demonstrates how many early education programs are available within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts • Children statistics by location • Shows the distribution of MA children • Available Resources • Visualization of existing museums, parks and libraries will help connect families with recreational and educational options

  5. Programs by location Licensed Center-Based Care • Demonstrates how many early education programs are available within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts

  6. Children statistics by location Most At-Risk Communities in terms of maternal and child health • WEAVE allows the use of color coding to depict high concentrations of at risk communities

  8. Home Visiting 17 at risk communities Multiple Data Display Capabilities • WEAVE can show bar graphs, scatter graphs, and data lists on the same screen for comparison

Conclusion and Next Steps • EEC developed a test site which displays a number of interactive visualizations using WEAVE • http://eec-tst-web-v01/EECDataMap/FirstPage.aspx • Static map images were placed on the EEC Website in November 2012 under ‘Data Visualization’ • http://www.eec.state.ma.us/Datavisualization/Firstpage.aspx#ad-image-0 • The WEAVE software will be uploaded to EEC’s Web server to get the full interactive visualizations functioning by January 31, 2013 • EEC will coordinate with UMass Lowell to ensure all web images are ADA compliant and data secure by January 31, 2013
