  1. HUMAN INTERACTION WITH THE ENVIRONMENT Example of how humans have interacted and changed the environment through the ages…

  2. Early Man • Paleolithic era- The earliest period of the stone age. • Migration-To move from one place to another. • Nomads- A person with no settled home. This is a Nomad traveling with three camels because that Nomad has no settled home.

  3. Early Farmers And City Dwellers • Government- An organized system of leaders and laws. • Plow- A tool used to cut, lift, and turn soil over. • Irrigation- Ways to move water to land. This is a plow that was used to cut, lift, and turn soil over.

  4. Mesopotamia • Ziggurat- The largest and tallest temple in every Sumerian city-state. • Bronze- Tin and copper are melted to make bronze. • Silt- Soil and tiny rocks carried or deposited on the land by flood waters. This is a bronze shield that was made out of tin and copper. This shield was Probably used in war.

  5. Egypt • Papyrus- A paper like material on which ancient Egyptians wrote on. • Pyramid- A structure that served as tombs for Egyptian rulers. • Hieroglyphs- Pictures or symbols that stand for a sound, words, or ideas. Shown on this slide is some of ancient Egypt's kings. (Pharaoh)

Greece • Myth- A story about how the actions of gods and goddesses affected the lives of people. • Harbors- Sheltered places with deep water close to shore • Bards- A pro storyteller who traveled from town to town, telling stories and singing songs about Greek gods, goddesses, and heroes. (Homer) This is a Harbor.

  7. Rome • Aqueduct-A system of bridges and canals that carry water from a natural source, such as a river, to a town. • Colosseum- The Colosseum is where events took place like when Gladiators fought to the death. • Forum- A public square in ancient Roman cities. This is the great Colosseum of Rome.
