THE MUSIC The 'ska' is a musical genre born in Kingston, Jamaica in the fifties influenced byAmerican rhythms such as jazz and Rhythm & Blues but merged with native rhythms such as calypso.The consolidation of the music 'ska' in the decade of the 60 matches Jamaica's independence from British rule. However, in the 70's when the 'ska' would represent a socialist ideology characteristic of the island at that time.

The word is a derivation of reggae ragga, which in turn is an abbreviation of raggamuffin,which in English means literally in rags. We used this label to name the poor in Jamaica,and also the Rastas and cultural movements of the slums.It is said that this genre is derived from 'ska' and had its origin in the 70's. It is characterized by socialist ideas in their lyrics and profess peace and racial equality.
