  4. Pre-AP World History and Geography • Not an AP class (no cost; no test) • Increased rigor and focus on evidence-based learning • College Board Quizzes and Performance Tasks • Simply put…it’s trusting students to be able to complete higher-level work Content

  5. Module 1: World Geography and Regions • Sub Unit: Patterns of Human Interaction • Sub Unit: Religion and Belief • Module 2: Postclassical Period (600-1450 C.E) • Module 3: Early Modern (1450-1750) • Module 4: Modern Period (1750-1914 C.E.) • Module 5: Contemporary Period (1914-Today) Content

  6. High rigor and high expectations • Personal Responsibility • I do not give grades, my students earn them • Students will be expected to contribute to class discussions, Socratic seminars, and debates respectfully and appropriately • Academic Integrity Policy Academic Expectations

  8. Main purpose is to check for understanding • Practice for Mastery • I do offer late work for my students • 1st missed day=50% • Please encourage them to finish missed assignments!! Homework Policy

  9. I do exams every module; quizzes are given in between learning objectives • Will vary in style and amount (multiple choice, short answer, document analysis) • Students may review their exam during my office hours Assessments

  10. Exams- 40% Classwork- 20% Homework- 10% Projects/Presentations- 10% Final Exam- 20% Grading

  11. Be on time • Be there EVERYDAY • Be Prepared 5 absences- parent notification 8 absences- warning notice 13 absences- loss of credit Attendance

  12. Office Hours- Before and After School from 2:00-3:00 • Tues, Thurs, Fri • Free Tutoring- Library • Free Tutoring- NHS Student Support

  13. Check IC regularly for grades and assignments Check homework for completion Ask about school Communicate with teachers and counselors TIPS FOR STUDENT SUCCESS

  14. Ask what they’re learning!! You might learn something new too! • High School students need the same follow-thru, time and attention that an elementary student needs. • Parents with high expectations have students who succeed. TIPS FOR STUDENT SUCCESS
