    12. 2. Narrative --- to recount, or tell the reader what happened (facts-telling)

    13. 3. Expositive (analytical) --- to make the reader understand by defining, dividing, illustrating, comparing & contrasting, showing causes & effects, following a process, analyzing and so on (cause-searching)

    14. 4. Argumentative --- to win the reader’s agreement by defending a position (idea- convincing, or thought – provoking)

    15. VII. Logical Relations among the Four Modes 1. Close to immediate experience are the descriptive and the narrative, because an experience is presented.

    16. 2. Close to abstraction from experience is the argumentative, because a position is justified. 3. Between immediate experience and abstraction is the analytical, because ideas or things are explained.
