Dreaming Mater soul boy -Elodie Muncey
The Meaning • The song is about someone who is awake but in a different state of mind and feels like everything seems different. He says "Give me some time before I lose my mind, oh I think I'm still dreaming. This implies he feels like he is dreaming and not living on the same wave length as everyone else he is around. I thought this song would be really good to make a music video of, it doesn't have a music video yet and is also very groovy
The genre • The genre of the song dreaming by mastersoulboy is modern jazz/ pop. You can tell some aspects of the song are inspired by larger artists for example Jameriqoui.
The idea (Synopsis) • The idea for my music video is to have a physcadelic theme with some animation in it. I would have the main character as the singer and it would be set in a studio but with very physcadelic and bright luminous lights. I would also have water as an aspect and film water in a way to make it look cool. There would be close ups inn the studio of the different instruments. Maybe there could also be a narrative of a story of a girl and the boy as it would work with the lyrics in the video since the song is about a boy who makes a girl feel like he is dreaming.
Visual Cues (Colours/images) • For the visuals, I would use bright coloures in the background, layed back costumes which would be casual but cool clothes. Especially the main singer, he would wear very layed back chilled clothes to match what he is saying about how he is dreaming. I would have many lights, which would be LED and bright. This would enhance the effect of the theme being phsycadelic. I would also have plants as props in the room as it would fit the vibe of our video.
Influences • The song sounds as if it has been inspired by jameroquis music. For this video, I want to show that and make it obvious so I would make sure to design the set in a simliar way to jameroquis music videos. I am also inspired and influenced by rex orange county as his music is very laid back and in his videos he wears casual layed back outfits
The cast (Who do you hope will be involved in your production?) • As the main performer and singer I would use Joel or Bashy from A2. I think they would fit the vibe of the music video. I would then use anyone who is confident in dancing in front of a camera in the background. I would use some good looking people who are good at immatating playing instruments for the close up in the studio part.
Performance (How many performers? Any instruments) • How are you going to develop the star persona? How will you represent your artist? • I will represent my artist as a very layed back person who has an open mind and think this fits the fact that the song is about dreaming. I want to portray the artist as a young man who can relate to our target audience as he is singing about a girl. I want it
Narrative (How are you telling a narrative? Story? Thematically?) • I will have a theme for the music video but the narrative wont be the main aspect, I would focus mainly on the performance aspect. However, I want the performance aspect to link to the story of the song which is about the boy dreaming about a girl. I want the boy to be in a different state of mind as he is in love and I would make that clear by maybe having a main girl who can be filmed also just doing her own thing and looking pretty. This way we can know who the boy is singing about.
The style • The style of our music video will be jazzy and layed back. I wouldn't want to many things going on apart from the phsycadelic lights and pictures and props as I feel that should be the main aspect of our video as if we have a complex and busy video to go with this song it wouldn't match the message which is dreaming.
The structure • Opening shot • 10 sec in … I would be filming the instruments and close ups as the first minute is just instrumental. • 30 sec in … I would have the artist in shot lying down which phsyadelic lights around him and he would be waking up from a nap in a bead. Since the song often says "I think im still dreaming." • 1min in... The singer would wake up and start singing and dancing a bit. Then there would be a flash back of him thinking about a girl and she would be shown. • 2min in... There would be dancers and the main singer but the girl would no longer be in it.
