  1. Chapter ten How do you predict the novel will end? Having read the last section, give chapter 10 a title that suggests the main ideas in this chapter.

  2. Pre 1917 Tsar Nicolas II ruled Russia. The ruling class was rich and powerful whilst the majority of the population were poor, peasant workers. These people lived in appalling conditions typified by hardship and suffering due to low wages and little food.

  3. In 1918 there was a civil war in Russia. Western countries sent armies to fight against the Bolsheviks, as they were worried that Communismmight spread to their own countries.

  4. Re-read Old Major’s speech. Read last 3 sentences – how has Old Major’s dream changed? What is Orwell’s point about power? Is Animal Farm only about the Russian Revolution?
