Notifications in the Integrity Management Rule Integrity Management Workshop July 23-24, 2002
Why Notifications? • Flexibility for times when schedules don’t work or a new approach is appropriate • Flag for OPS on deviations from rule requirements • Not a remedy for bad planning
Types of Notifications • Intent to Use “Other Technology” for Assessments • Inability to Meet Required Repair Schedule OR Reduce Pressure • Plan to Reassess Pipe Segment(s) Less Frequently than Every Five Years
How to Submit • Mail address and Facsimile number in the rule • On-line http://primis.rspa.dot.gov/imdb (no mail or fax required)
What Doesn’t Happen? • Operators are not relieved from complying with other requirements (e.g., safety condition reporting) • No shield from enforcement -- OPS may enforce if Notifications are Late, Incomplete, or Technically Inadequate
Things to Remember • Submit as early as possible, but no later than “deadlines” in rule • Submit on-line or use on-line forms as guide for what to submit • Don’t rely on notifications to excuse poor planning
