Practice—Pre-Peer Edit Checklist • Outline? • Does each topic statement connect to the thesis? • Are there at least TWO specific pieces of evidence to support this claim?
Considering an Introduction A way to formulate your thinking is to write the BODY first, then attend to intro and conclusion—you will have a better sense as to where you are leading your reader • You can think of an intro like this: How do you HOOK? Get them thinking in the direction of your thesis! • Question • Quotation • Specific experience • Shocker/Surprise Hook Introduction of text/main ideas Thesis
How do we end? • You can think of a conclusion like this: • Remember, a conclusion is there to reflect on the thinking, and its possible implications. • Reflect on the thesis. (Where have you taken • your reader?) • Make text-t0 text, text to world connections • (What implications does this thesis have?)
Drafting • What do we do when we draft? We make changes, add, edit out, and then print it out. Once you smooth out the cosmetic issues, you can then approach the work: Were you CLEAR? Banned words/phrases • Really • Very • I think, believe.. • In my opinion • To me • This quote shows… • Alot • Is trying to say • …. • Etc.
Practice • Start developing your second draft. You can make changes on your draft and then (re)type it tonight. You will want to have a clean copy of your 2nd (or 3rd!) draft by Wednesday! Banned words/phrases?
