  2. PURPOSE OF BEEP The purpose of BEEP is to provide support to new teachers on the NC Teacher Evaluation Rubric targeting Standards II through IV. Special support will be given in the areas of classroom management, 21st Century Skills, and writing learning objectives.

COURSE EXPECTATIONS • ATTEND ALL MEETINGS • REFLECTIONS - ELECTRONIC DIARY (AT LEAST 1 WEEKLY) – YEARS 1AND 2 ONLY – DUE AT EVERY MEETING • WHAT WORKED? • WHAT DIDN’T WORK? • WHAT DO I NEED TO DO DIFFERENTLY? • Learning Walks (at least 15 minutes) – AT LEAST 1 DUE AT EACH MEETING • 2 SELF-OBSERVATIONS (VIDEO-TAPED) – DUE FEBRUARY/MAY • YEAR 3 – ARTICLES TO SHARE (1 EVERY OTHER MONTH) • MONTHLY MENTOR/MENTEE LOGS – DUE DEC/MAY • WIKI CHECKS

(CALIBRATION) • DOES YOUR OBJECTIVE ENSURE CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS ARE BEING ADDRESSED? • EVERYTHING FROM THE WARM-UP TO THE TICKET OUT THE DOOR SHOULD BE CONNECTED? • DOES THE OBJECTIVE CONNECT STUDENTS TO THEIR LOCAL AND NATIONAL COMMUNITY? • TRIM THE FAT AND ADD THE MEAT…What do you really want them to learn????? IT’S ALL IN THE OBJECTIVE…

BE PROACTIVE • OUT OF YOUR SEAT AND ON YOUR FEET • HOMEWORK IS FOR “HOME” • PLAN, PLAN, PLAN (OVER-PLAN) – FROM BEGINNING TO END • LESSON PLAN SHOULD BE INDICATIVE OF WHAT YOU ARE DOING • ORGANIZE YOUR SELF – TRIM THE FAT!!! • KNOW YOUR HIGH FLYERS, LEAST MOTIVATED, LOW READERS • KNOW YOUR STUDENTS – DIAGNOSE THEM FOR THEIR NEEDS (learning styles, learning levels, 504 PLANS, IEPS, PEPS, END OF GDADE TEST SCORES) • BE CONSISTENT!!!!
