Research Thinking @ IMDC • The comparison between teaching pedagogies • Independent variables: pedagogies • Traditional pedagogy: do not use any Internet resources to help • Internet mediated: use virtual design studio to help • Collaborative Internet mediated: use VDS to run a collaborative design project in course • Dependent variable: performance and motivation • Performance: include creative, completeness, sophisticated, and so on. • Motivation: subjective investigation, include acceptance, opinion, self-evaluation, suggestions, satisfaction, and so on.
Research Thinking @ IMDC • The influence on course activities: to study the impact and performance of the use Internet as a mediator on course activities. The activities can divide from the design process, or just focus on the special objective. Here are 2 ways to study: • The same active use different mediator or methods, to find out which method is suitable. The candidate activities include brainstorming, discussion, presentation… • Independent variables: the methods use to conduct the activity, include the F2F, CMC (divided by media, text, graphic, audio, video, and multi-media…)… • Dependent variables: the performance, include the quantity and the quality, like creative, feasibility… • The same methods (mediator) use to different activities, to find out which activity is suitable to use the Internet to be a mediator. It’s hard to compare the performance between the activities, so it needs to repeat the experiment 1 to every activity. Otherwise, the investigate use the questionnaire may be can do this. • Independent variables: the activities, • Dependent variables: the subjective opinion, satisfaction, and evaluation of the methods on every activity. • CMC issues: focus on the communication issues, to find out the problems when using Internet to mediated communication on design course. This way seems far away the originally thought and direction of IMDC. • Interface issues: focus on the interface design about the VDS, how many media must provided? How to arrange the function windows in screen?
