A Call for Discussion • Grass Roots effort to have a Citizens Review Board with a greater level of authority in Columbus. • On April 1, 2008 Council requested the City Manager to pull a Panel together to discuss the Pros & Cons of a Citizens Review Board/Commission.
Time Line of Events • December 10, 2003 – Kenneth Walker shot and killed • Community calls for Independent Review Board • City Council approved the establishment of a Public Safety Advisory Commission on May 4, 2004
Public Safety Advisory Commission • Mission: To recommend resources, public safety practices and policies, and citizens’ responsibilities needed to achieve a safe community to the Mayor, Columbus Council, and our public safety departments.
Duties and Responsibilities • The Commission has NO authority to: • Investigate • Review • Or otherwise participate in matters involving specific public safety personnel or specific public safety related incidents.

Work Session Format • Panelist will make a 15 minute presentation about their Citizen Review Board. • Each are available to respond to particular questions of the Mayor and Council regarding Citizen Review Boards. • At the conclusion of the Council Work Session – panelist are available to entertain questions from the public on the Plaza Level – opposite the Council Chambers.
