  1. Warm-Up: October 4, 2011 • A line passes through the points (3, 7) and (1, -5). Write the equation of the line in: • Point-Slope Form • Slope-Intercept Form • Standard Form

  2. Homework Questions?

  3. Modeling Real-World Data:Using Scatter Plots Section 2-5

  4. Remember last week? • Hooke’s Law Activity • Gathered data for mass added and rubber band length • Drew a straight line through your data

  5. Definitions • Bivariate data – data with two variables • Scatter Plot – Graph of ordered pairs of bivariate data • The line of fit is the straight line drawn through the data • The equation of this line is called the prediction equation. • The best possible line of fit is the linear regression equation.

  6. Example

  7. Classwork • Return to your Hooke’s Law group • Write the prediction equation for each rubber band (can use your answers to question #3) • Predict the length of each rubber band for the following masses: • 30 g • 75 g • 230 g • 5000 g • Each person should write down their work.

  8. Quiz 2-1 through 2-4 • Determine if a relation is a function • Determine if an equation is a function • Identify the domain and range of a relation • Identify the domain and range of an equation • Calculate the slope given two points • Write the equation (in all 3 forms) of a line passing through two points • Calculate the x-intercept and y-intercept • Graph a line • Identify slope of parallel/perpendicular lines

  9. October 5, 2011 • You have 10 minutes to prepare for today’s quiz • Have your homework out for Mr. Szwast to check.

  10. Homework Questions?

  11. Quiz • You may use a calculator (but one is not necessary) • You may write in pencil or pen • Show all work • If you appear to be talking while any quizzes are out, you will receive a zero • If you appear to be looking at anyone else’s quiz, or allowing anyone to look at yours, you will receive a zero. • 25 minute time limit

  12. Linear Regression on TI-83
