How to rank an Engineering College? • Typically it should be possible to achieve the status of a reputed institution in 5 years of time. • If a college with more than 10 years presence has not achieved at least 50% of the requirements, they are unlikely achieve in the next 4 years of your study there. Hence, avoid such institutions.
College Classification • Top ranking/Tier 1 colleges: They are more than 10 year old and meet more than 90% of the requirements. • Second Level/Tier 2 colleges: They are less than 5 year old and meet more than 70% of the requirements. They are very promising colleges!
College Classification(continued) • Third Level/Tier 3 colleges: They are more than 10 year old and meet just about 70% of the requirements. • Fourth Level/Tier 4 colleges: They are less than 10 year old and meet about 40% of the requirements.
College Classification(continued) • Fifth Level/Tier 5 colleges: They are more than 10 year old and meet about 40% of the requirements. Surely, avoid such colleges.
Identify the level of college you can enter based on your CET rank, COMED-K rank and your financial position. • Short list 3 colleges at the Tier you fit in. • Short list 2 more colleges, one above and one below the Tier that you fit in. • Select one of these colleges through CET/ COMED-K/ Management quota and be satisfied for making an informed choice.
