The History of Sharks • Scientists believe that some form of sharks have been around for 400 million years! They were here before the dinosaurs. Sharks belong to the class of fish called the Chondrichthyes.
Types of Sharks • There are 360 different species of sharks. Some of the most popular sharks are the angel sharks, hammerhead sharks, reef sharks, blue sharks, great white sharks, and grouping sharks.
Prey • Sharks eat anything from plankton and small animals to fish and marine animals. When sharks spot prey, they hurry to it, biting anything in their path.
Facts • 1. Sharks have skeletons made out of cartilage, a flexible, lighter tissue that gives sharks their speed underwater. • 2. Sharks grow more than 20,000 teeth in their lifetime. • 3.The smallest shark is the Dwarf Lantern Shark, which is only 7 inches long. The biggest shark is the Whale Shark. It is almost 40 feet in length.
