Prophase 1 Spindle forms Nucleolus and nuclear membrane dissolve Tetrads form Crossing over may occur (tetrads get tangled and exchange equal parts)
Metaphase 1 –tetrads line up in the middle Anaphase 1 – tetrads are pulled apart
Telophase 1 - spindle dissolves - nuclear envelope and nucleolus reform - 2 haploid cells form The original and its duplicate from mom go to one daughter cell The original and its duplicate from dad go to the other daughter cell
Prophase 2 – nuclear envelope and nucleolus dissolve, spindle forms Metaphase 2– choromosomes line up in the middle
Anaphase 2 – chromosomes are pulled apart Telophase 2 – 4 haploid nuclei form
Spermatogenesis -formation of sperm- 4 haploid cells grow flagella Oogenesis– formation of eggs - 4 haploid nuclei form, but only one gets cytoplasm and becomes an egg - the other 3 have no cytoplasm, are called polar bodies, and die
