BACKGROUND and METHOD • Use an Iterated Function System (IFS) as described by British Mathematician Michael Barnsley • Generated by repeated transformations of a point in the plane • Always self-similar CONSTRUCTION • Start with a vector x with two components x(1) and x(2) • There are four different transformations that it goes through according to the probability that you choose for each x Ax + b Each transformation corresponds to a different element of the fern (ex. Stem, fronds, curvature of the leaves, etc.)
