Soft Tissue Sarcomas • Account for fewer than 1 percent of malignancies diagnosed • originate in injured tissues such as scars or radiation exposed areas • often the result of p53 mutations and/or MDM2 amplification or overexpression
To examine the role of MDM2 in soft tissue sarcomas we must first understand the role of p53 protein as a tumor suppressor
