Brian Bennett- The Flipped Classroom is a mindset, not a method • Aaron Sams - There is no such thing as THE flipped classroom
Flipped Lessons are not: Flipped Lessons are: • Just videos • An online class • Replacing teachers with videos • Students working without structure • Students working alone • A means to INCREASE interaction and personalized contact time between students and teachers • An environment where students take responsibility for their own learning
Benefits of Flipped Lessons • A classroom where students who are absent due to illness or extra-curricular activities such as athletics or field-trips, don't get left behind. • A class where content is permanently archived for review or remediation. • A class where all students are engaged in their learning. • A place where all students can get a personalized education
5 Styles of Flipping Video introduces topic, class time expands on it Video interlude introduces a problem or a challenge Video introduces homework Video prompts reflection Students teach with video
Goals of the Flipped Lesson Create an engaging, interactive environment that is student- centered. Make the best use of your face- to-face time with your students. Focus on deeper meaning and connections, not just basic rote memorization and practice. Practice, application, and working with content is done inside of class.
How did we begin? • Started with the end in mind • Kept it simple • Connected, connected, connected • Used other available resources for videos
