Selecting a Ripe Pineapple • Color Test • Sniff Test • Squeeze Test • Myth
Before you start… • Place the pineapple upside down in the fridge for 30 minutes • Find a sturdy cutting surface
WARNING • Knife is sharp • Avoid slippery surfaces
Step 1 • Remove the head of the pineapple by gripping the leaves at the base and gently twisting
Step 2 • Lay the pineapple on its side and cut ¼ to ½ inch off the top and bottom
Step 3 • Remove the peel • Stand up the pineapple and cut down the sides with the knife • Turn pineapple around in a circle, cutting until peel is completely removed
Tip • Cut about ¼ inch deep so you don’t take the fruit with the peel. • You can remove remaining brown divots with the vegetable peeler.
Step 4 • Cut the pineapple into quarters, lengthwise • Stand the pineapple on end and slice it in half from top to bottom • Cut each half, in half again NOTE The core is inedible and should be removed
Step 5 • Remove the core • Lay each piece on its side, so that it lays flat on the cutting surface. • Cut along the line separating the core from the fruit • Repeat for each piece
Step 6 • Cut to serve • Turn each piece so that the newly cut edge faces you • Cut into even- and bite-size chunks
