  4. The people involved are: -people across the US including Charlotte, NC. -people around the world including Tokyo, Japan. Step 2 SL first discovered in 1952 in Paris, France. Sky-Lotus (flesh-eating flower) introduced to N. America in 2003. Problem: The Sky-Lotus is spreading! As of 2010, 25% of families in Charlotte have the SL growing near them. Compared to 20.7% of Tokyo families.

  5. Step 3 Causes Effects Spores and seeds transferred overseas. Health Concerns Problem experienced is: Increase of Sky-Lotus, a harmful, flesh-eating flower. Lack of awareness causes SL to spread. School absences. SL grow at a rampant rate. Lack of homework completion by students.

  6. Step 4 Who might help solve this problem? Contact CDC Set up study groups Local political leaders Scientists Families Teachers Students Solutions to the problem Write letters to local politicians.

  7. Step 5 Advantage #1 It is free— peer tutors will work as volunteers. Best Possible Solution Advantage #2 Peer tutors will help increase homework production. Set up study groups for students affected by the SL. Advantage #3 Students will be motivated to go to school by realizing the importance of education.

  8. Step 6 Steps of Implementation Create a peer tutor sign-up sheet in all schools affected. Send letters home to students affected by SL. Set up schedule. Begin one-on-one peer tutoring program. Use positive reinforcement and track progress.

  9. Step 7 The Counterargument Students affected by the SL will not increase motivation.  This is actually false. When the students begin to realize that completing homework increases their grades, overall GPA, and success later in life, they will become more motivated. Students will not sign-up to peer tutor unless they are getting paid.  False! Students who peer tutor will earn community service hours and learn the value of hard work and dedication. These tutors will also be more likely to earn other privileges in school and at home.
