  1. Global Action Networks: Lessons for Earth System Governance Lecture – 6 December, 2010 – by Steve Waddell Several ways have emerged over the last few years to describe strategies, structures and processes associated with new global governance approaches.  One of these is Global Action Networks (GANs), the title of a new book subtitled "Creating our future together", by Dr. Steve Waddell. "Global Action Networks" are global governance multi-stakeholder networks dealing with a broader array of issues than the environmental Earth System Governance.  However, the lessons emerging about GANs is highly relevant to the questions being addressed in research on Earth System Governance.Dr. Steve Waddell has worked globally on issues of multi-stakeholder collaboration for nearly 20 years.  In 1999 he contributed to a report to Kofi Annan titled Critical Choices:  The United Nations, networks, and the future of global governance, and since then he has focused exclusively on what he now calls GANs.  He has worked with a wide range of them, including the Forest Stewardship Council, the UN Global Compact and the Global Reporting Initiative.  He is Principal of NetworkingAction and publishes a popular blog on the topic of "organizing for the 21st century" at www.blog.networkingaction.net. Dr. Steve Waddell will present his new book "Global Action Networks:  Creating our future together“ at IVM, on December 6, 13:00-14:00 hrs When and where Contact Date: 6 December, 2010 Time: 13.00 – 14.00 Place: Room C541 IVM, W&N building, VU Campus (entrance via De Boelelaan 1085) Eleftheria Vasileiadou or Susan van ‘t Klooster Eeleftheria.vasileiadou@ivm.vu.nl T 020 598 9578 E susan.van.t.klooster@ivm.vu.nl T 020 598 5547 Institute for Environmental StudiesVU University AmsterdamDe Boelelaan 1087, 1081 HV Amsterdam IVM INSTITUTE FOR ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES VU University Amsterdam      De Boelelaan 1085 (visiting address) De Boelelaan 1087 (postal address) 1081 HV Amsterdam t +31-20-5989 555 f +31-20-5989 553 e info@ivm.vu.nli http://www.ivm.vu.nl
