  2. What’s in a name? • Copy-change Process: borrow the structure and ideas of the original passage, but add your own images and ideas. • (Example-Handout)

  3. What’s in a name? • On a piece of paper, compose a sentence, like “Original Sentence 1”, of your own using the following guidelines: • 1. Use as few or as many words from the original as you wish. • 2. Stay close to the structure of the original. • 3. Use approximately the same number of words as the original.

  4. What’s in a name? • Look at “Original Sentence II” and predict what words will be borrowed, and which will be replaced with substitutes. • Compose your own sentence based on “Original Sentence II,” following the same guidelines you used for “Original Sentence I.”

  5. What’s in a name? • Look at the excerpt from The House on Mango Street. Notice the rhythm of the passage. • Create a copy-change version of the excerpt that focuses on your own name or the name that you investigated last class period. • Use your previous research homework, your connotation/denotation homework to complete the assignment.
