  1. Accept the Greener Challenge

  2. Global Warming! • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJAbATJCugs • http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2007/10/01/science/20071002_ARCTIC_GRAPHIC.html

  3. Renewable Energy vs. Alternative Energy • Natural Resources WILL END! • Renewable Energy: Solar Power (Photovoltaics and Quantum Dots). Solar Roof: Commercial Energy Efficiency: 11-13% • 60 Cents to 8 Cents per kW in 20 years • Wind Power: Offshore Wind Farms • Ground Heat: Geo-exchange system (The devices employ a series of underground, liquid-filled tubes or wells. Liquid flows through the pipes into the home, where a heat exchanger either adds or subtracts heat from indoor air, depending on the season. In winter, that means added warmth captured from the ground.)

  4. Energy Brainstorm • Topics Brainstormed: • Hall Lights and Lounges • Bathroom lights • Reduction of light usage • Possible wind power (apes guy) • Light bulbs

  5. Solar Roof Survey • Sandy Smith-Nonini: UNC-CH Professor • YIKES! (http://yikeslink.blogspot.com/search/label/NC%20Powerdown%20events) • Possible Volunteering Opportunities • Exceptional Leadership (hint: colleges)

  6. Lounge and Bathroom Lights Email will be sent to Mr.Newbauer to discuss the possible solutions and the first priority would be to have either AGC club members addressing this issue at hall meetings or through the RLAs/SLIs.

  7. Moodle and Electronic Study Materials • Initial Survey • I. Encouraging teachers to put study materials online (moodle, or sending handouts, study guides, etc. through email) unless it is very important for the students to have hard copies: Administrators would be notified to address this issue in a Faculty Meeting or such. FYI, Teachers would soon be required to put homework on moodle on a regular basis (source: Student Government)

  8. Lights Around the Campus • Proper usage of campus lights. Dr. Barber would be contacted so that she could notify the maintenance people know this issue about unnecessary light usage at night, throughout the campus, as well as fixing the light switches (at girls' dorms? I don’t quite remember which halls were those, so, please LET ME KNOW whether you know of any particular halls with the problem)

  9. Different Types of Light Bulbs

  10. And at last but not the least… • TRANSPORTATION • NCSSM Obligatory mandate to reduce gas usage by at least 10% • Initial Survey for SLIs (Immediate Plan)

  11. Duke Energy Sustainability • http://www.duke.edu/sustainability/student_groups/index.html

  12. Green Cup Challenge and other Hall Competitions?
