When You Are Old By; William Butler Beats When you are old and grey and full of sleep, And nodding by the fire, take down this book, And slowly read, and dream of the soft look Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep; How many loved your moments of glad grace, And loved your beauty with love false or true, But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you, And loved the sorrows of your changing face; And bending down beside the glowing bars, Murmur, a little sadly, how Love fled And paced upon the mountains overhead And hid his face amid a crowd of stars.

Poem Structure • Stanzas:3 • Lines:12 • Lyric poem • Literal Meaning :the literal meaning of this poem would be that when your our old you should relax and think about your life. • Figurative meaning: the figurative meaning of this poem would be that when you are old and tired of drama and sitting down just thinking about your life think about all the people who loved you for you even on your bad days when you looked a hot mess but also think about the people who didn’t love your for you and how their love ad emotions for you fled their heart like they never talked to you a day in their life. • Theme: The poet was trying to say that you don’t hide from your mistakes or accomplishments you learn from them and try to make them better.

6. Author’s purpose • Authors' purpose: the purpose of the author was to teach people that in love it’s not always a bad thing to have bad relationships because it’s a plus side you can learn from the mistake. Also that it’s not always bad moments in love you can have good moments.

7. Biographical Information • William Butler Yeats: (1865-1939) he was born in Dublin. He was educated in Dublin and London • An Irish poet • His father was a lawyer and a well-known portrait painter. • Spent his summers in west Ireland at his summer house with his family in Connaught. • In his first dramatic production it outweighed his poetry career. • Together with lady Gregory he found the Irish theater. • After 1910 his dramatic theater career took a sharp turn from dramatic theater career to a poetical status . • William Butler Yeats died on January 28, 1939. in, Menton, France • Born on June 13, 1865, Sandymount, Republic of Ireland • He had a few books out for example “The Vision” and the “The Tower” • His parents were Susan Pollexfen and John Butler Yeats

Personification: Personification is when you assign the qualities of a person to something that isn't human or, in some cases, to something that isn't even alive. In this case love is being talked about as a human being love cannot fun over the mountains overhead. And love has no face so how can love hide his face ,it is an emotion or feeling.
