What is the Certificate to Work? • The Certificate to Work is an employer led initiative leading to a joint certificate issued by Pearson and Skills for Logistics. • The Certificate to Work is an overarching, wrap around certificate that consists of components (Industry licences and certificates, as well as accredited qualifications) that will set a standard in the future for new LGV drivers to achieve. What is the Aim of theCertificate to Work? • The aim of the Certificate to Work is to: • Standardise the training of new LGV drivers • Attract new drivers into the industry • Demonstrate new drivers have the knowledge, competence and skills to be a safe and eco practical driver Certificate to Work
Who is the Certificate to Work for? • The Certificate to Work is not a fixed programme. • Learners can come from three different pathways: • Young, inexperienced (NEETS) • Experienced but changing career (e.g. Warehouse to Wheels) • Experienced drivers from the MOD who haven’t really used their Cat C or C+E licence before Certificate to Work

Delivering the Certificate to Work • Any organisation delivering the Certificate to Work will need the capability to provide the following: • LGV Training • Functional Skills English and Mathematics • BTEC Level 1 Award in Principles for Carrying and Delivering Goods by Road (QCF) • Units from the Level 2 Certificate in Driving Goods Vehicles (QCF) • Learners must be either employed or given the opportunity of a work placement during the programme. How is the CtW Funded? • There are various ways components of the Certificate to Work can be funded: • The Logistics Guild Credit Union – Individual learners may be able to obtain a loan • Employer – Employers sponsor learners through the Certificate to Work programme • Skills Funding Agency – Funding may be available for the accredited qualifications Certificate to Work
Skills for Logistics Responsibilities • Skills for Logistics will be the sole approved centre to certificate the Certificate to Work. • Skills for Logistics is responsible for checking and verifying a learner has achieved all components of the Certificate to Work and for issuing the certificate. Pearson Responsibilities • Employers/training providers delivering the accredited qualification components of the Certificate to Work will have to be an approved Pearson centre. • Pearson will quality assure the delivery of the accredited qualifications in each delivery centre as normal. • Pearson will certificate learners for the accredited qualifications as usual. The Role of the Logistics Guild • The Logistics Guild is a membership organisation which has been set up by Skills for Logistics. • Anyone who enrols on the Certificate to Work will automatically become a member of the Logistics Guild. • The Logistics Guild will be able to broker training services for those organisations who do not wish to become Pearson accredited centres. • The Logistics Guild is in the process of setting up a Credit Union which will enable individuals to access training loans.
