  1. GSB-88 Sealer/Binder Manufactured by Asphalt Systems, Inc. Salt Lake City, UT • Liquid Asphalt Emulsion • Asphalt Preservation Material • Surface Rebinding Agent • Prevents Surface Weathering • Pennies Saving Dollars

  2. Asphalt Systems, Inc.Salt Lake City , Utah • 30 years preserving asphalt • Innovative preservation materials • Focus on asphalt preventive maintenance for: • Federal, state, and local governments • Private industry • Residential

  3. What Is GSB-88? • Complex asphalt emulsion • Applied as a fog seal • Surface oxidation retardant • Rebinding agent • Sealant • Surface rejuvenator • Cosmetically enhancing • Can be used as a construction seal

  4. Why GSB-88? • Asphalt comes from the “bottom of the barrel” of the refining process • As refining techniques get better the quality of asphalt decreases • Poorer asphalt binder • Higher asphalt prices • GSB-88 uses natural occurring asphalt that has never been refined • High quality resins and polar compounds

  5. Applying GSB-88 • Standard asphalt distributor • Rate: .10 to .15 gallon per sq/yd • Standard: .12 gallon per sq/yd • Even and accurate application • Sand distribution • Rate: .3 lb to 2 lbs per sq/yd • Standard: .3 lb to .75 lb per sq/yd

  6. One-pass Sand Application GSB

  7. Two-pass Sand Application Shoulders I-88 NY

  8. Preserving the Binder • The leading cause of asphalt deterioration is surface oxidation • GSB-88 is significantly more resistant to surface oxidation than refined AC • GSB-88’s unrefined resins rebind macro and micro maintaining surface integrity • Reapplication of GSB-88 can virtually eliminate surface oxidation

  9. GSB-88 Pavement Selection • Best candidates • Newer pavements • Shoulders & rumble strips • Residential roads • Excessive weathering • Premature raveling • Low volume roads • Parking & rest areas • Airports • Poor candidates • Older pavements • Where skids are marginal • High traffic roads • Where structural failure already exists • Where surface oxidation is a minor factor in degradation
