  2. A Good Eye • Sees clearly and effectively • Sight is a figure for spiritual perception, Matt. 13:14-15 • EYE: “metaph. the eyes of the mind, the faculty of knowing” (Thayer, OLB) • An eye is like a lamp that shows the body which way to move and turn, Luke 11:33-36

  3. Good Eyes • Focus on heavenly treasures, Matthew 6:19-23 • Believe Jesus and be saved from sin, John 9:35-41 • To be converted, Acts 26:18 • Spiritual discernment is based on divine revelation, 1 Cor. 2:14-16 • To know the blessings we have from God, Eph. 1:17-19 3

  4. Good Eyes • Have spiritual perception in order to know: • Heavenly treasure from the counterfeit, Matt. 6:19-20 (13:44) • That our heart is where it ought to be, Matt. 6:21 (Col. 3:1-4) • Conduct which is pure and in truth, Matt. 6:22 (“trained”, Lk. 6:40) 4

  5. Good Eyes • Perceive and focus on heavenly treasures, Matt. 6:19-23 • Good: “simple, single…whole… sound…of the eye” (Thayer, OLB) • A focused eye can do great things for God, 6:22; Lk. 11:34-36 • A distracted eye is deadly to the soul, 6:23; Matt. 6:33-34 5

  6. Raise our Spiritual Perception to Know the Value of… • Lost souls, Lk. 15:8-10 (Jno. 4:35) • How we see the lost determines how we act toward them, James 5:19-20 • Discarded or distressed? • Inconvenienced or involved?

  7. Raise our Spiritual Perception to Know the Value of… • The truth of the gospel, Prov. 23:23; Psa. 19:8, 10-11; 119:127-128 • Affects how we listen and obey • See the truth with spiritual eyes, we will… • Lay it up in our hearts, Psa. 119:11 • Contend for it, Jude 3 • Live it, Jas. 1:21-22

  8. Raise our Spiritual Perception to Know the Value of… • Gospel preaching, 1 Cor. 1:18-25; Rom. 10:8 (9-17) • Affects whether we want to listen to it and support it with our resources • See gospel preaching as God sees it we will demand it and receive it, 2 Tim. 4:1-5

Raise our Spiritual Perception to Know the Value of… • The church of Christ, 1 Tim. 3:15; Eph. 1:22-23; 3:21; 5:25-27 • Affects how we treat the church: Respect, love, concern, unity, honor and service • Or, with neglect, selfishness, pettiness, arrogance and boasting • Work for its strength when we see the church for what it is

  10. Raise our Spiritual Perception to Know the Value of… • Heaven, Revelation 21:1 • Affects whether being a faithful, devout Christian is most important to us or not • We can and must see heaven with eyes of faith, Heb. 11:13-16

  11. Good Eyes • Keep your eyes on Jesus, Heb. 12:1-2 • “to turn the eyes away from other things and fix them on something” “If your eye is good (single, clear), your whole body will be full of light.” (Matthew 6:22) 11
