  7. Treatments lifelong condition with no cure Desmopressin (DDAVP). Replacement therapies. Contraceptives Antifibrinolytic or clot-stabilizing medications. Fibrin sealants

  8. Complications Anemia Swelling and Pain Death from Bleeding

  9. Pathophysiology • High blood flow • Shear stress • Shows primarily in organs with extensive small vessels • such as the skin, • Gastrointestinal tract • The uterus

  10. Demographics Von Willebrand disease affects males and females about equally present in up to 1 percent of the U.S. population. Race does not appear to play a role in the disease.

  12. Risk Factors A family history of von Willebrand disease 50 percent chance of transmitting this gene to your offspring
