Tobacco Control Legislation in Slovenia • AMENDMENT to the Bill to Control the Use of Tobacco Products (2002) • Limitation of nicotine, tar and CO concentrations in cigarettes • Warnings on tobacco products • Forbidden to sell tobacco products for oral use • Higher fines • New ISO standards
FCTC • Signed in September 2004 • Ratifiede in January 2005 • Implementation started by total ban on advertising in September 2005
Taxes and Price • All taxes – 75% per pack • Excise tax rising once a year – by 2008 EU minimum level (foreseen already for July 2007)

Main objectives of the Coalition • Reduce the number of smokers in Slovenia, especially among young people • Raise awarreness about harmful effect of smoking especially second hand smoking • Including workshops on the dangers of smoking in primary and secondary schools • Lobbing for complete Ban of smoking in the workplace including bars and restaurants • The role and influence of civil society on political decision regarding the tobacco legislation
PAST ACTIVITIES (2005) Public awareness campaigns Health promotion festival “Non smoking festival” Expert consulting in health centers and cooperation with Slovenian Ministry of Health Project and activities to support total prohibition of smoking in workplaces PRESENT ACTIVITIES (2006/2007) Public awareness campaign on second hand smoking Festival on May 31 Project and activities to decrease the tobacco abuse among young people in Slovenia Research of presence and influence of tobacco in media (film, television, etc.) Activities of the Coalition
