The World of Education Is Changing From To • Unconditional Trust from Public • Single delivery system with little or no choice • Purpose of schools to sort/select students • Strong consensus on purpose of schools • Student population that was homogeneous. • Emphasis on only the school • Earned trust through results • Multi-dimensional system with choices i.e. charter schools • Purpose of schools to provide higher levels of achievement for all • No consensus on purpose of schools • Radically diverse student population • Focus on school, home and community

The World of Curriculum Is Changing From To • Focus on teaching • Inputs • Performance • Means • Processes • Little agreement on what should be taught • Basics • Focus on learning • Outputs • Results • Ends • Outcomes • State content standards • 21st century skills??? All kids can learn, All teachers can grow

  6. 1999-2000 API Consists of: • Stanford (SAT) 9 results from 1998-99 School year. Basic Vocabulary API - Academic Performance Index PSAA - Public Schools Accountability Act CDE - California Department of Education AB1114 - Assembly Bill - Certificated Staff Incentive

  7. Students exempted from API Report: • Mobility - in school district for less than one year • Special Accommodation of students tested more than one year below their grade level. (ex: 5th grader tested at 3rd grade level. • Test Accommodations marked: Braille, Large print test, revised test format, use of aides and/or aids.
