  2. Irony • The use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning. (ahy-run-nee, ahy-er-)

  3. Etymology • The Greek etymology of the word irony means feigned ignorance from eiron, the one who makes a question pretending to be naïve, and irony is also a verb radical of the Greek “to speak”. The verb eiron itself is probably from the Proto-indo-european root wer-say.
